1. Accessibility requirements and applicable criteria

Digital accessibility requirements are defined by Legislative Decree No. 82 of 27 May 2022, “Implementation of Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 on the accessibility requirements for products and services“, which refers to the UNI EN 301549 standard for technical aspects.

Specifically, website compliance must be assessed against the criteria set out in Chapters 9 “Web” and 10 “Non-web content”, which reference the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level A + AA.

The four fundamental principles of digital accessibility defined by WCAG 2.1 are:

  • Perceivable – Content is presented in a clear and understandable way.
  • Operable – The interface is easily navigable by all users.
  • Understandable – Information and operations are intuitive and easy to interpret.
  • Robust – The website is compatible with commonly used assistive technologies.

With reference to the aforementioned UNI EN 301549 standard, which clearly lists the 50 success criteria to be considered when verifying website accessibility, technical analyses were carried out on the website’s content. This content includes both textual and non-textual information, downloadable documents and forms, as well as forms of two-way interaction, such as the processing of digital forms and the completion of authentication, identification, and payment processes.

Of the 50 success criteria specified by the current technical standards, the following are deemed not applicable to this website:

  • 1.2.4 Captions (live)

Excluded areas from application

Article 1, paragraph 5 of Legislative Decree No. 82/2022 states that the provisions of the decree do not apply to the following website and mobile application content:

  • pre-recorded time-based media published before 28 June 2025;
  • office file formats published before 28 June 2025;
  • online maps and mapping services, provided that essential navigation information is available in an accessible digital format;
  • third-party content that is neither funded nor developed by the economic operator nor under its control;
  • website and mobile application content considered archives, containing only content not updated or revised after 28 June 2025.

2. General description of the service

This website is aimed at the end consumer and offers a commercial information service regarding the products of the Theresianer brand. Users can learn more about individual products, access the external e-commerce platform directly to finalize their purchases, and discover more about the company, its values, and its production methods. Furthermore, the website allows users to browse news, the house organ, and recipes, contact the company, and find information about the company’s retail outlets.

3. How the service works

The website can be used on desktop, tablet, and smartphone devices via the main web browsers currently on the market, and is available in several languages. Website navigation, subject to confirmation that the user is of legal age, is straightforward and carried out through an intuitive menu.

Users can take advantage of the website’s features in the following ways:

  • Browse the different product types: users can view the different types of products offered by the company by starting from the dedicated menu item and selecting the category of interest from the submenu.
  • Discover more about the company: users can deepen their knowledge of the company, its production methods, and its corporate philosophy by starting from the dedicated menu item and subsequently selecting the topic of interest from the submenu.

  • Browse cocktail recipes: users can consult recommended recipes by starting from the menu item dedicated to Mixology.
  • Browse the news: users can read company-related news by selecting the media item in the menu and then the dedicated news item from the submenu. Each news item also features a dedicated page with the relevant text information.
  • Access the e-commerce website: users can directly reach the company’s e-commerce platform by selecting the dedicated button at the top of the page or within the individual product sheets on the presentation pages.
  • Contact the company: users can contact the company via the email address provided on the contact page (accessible from the menu) or listed in the website footer.

4. Compliance with accessibility requirements

Hausbrandt Trieste 1892 S.p.A. has commissioned a third-party digital accessibility expert to conduct a technical assessment on the compliance status of the website covered by this statement. Following this audit, a report was provided detailing the corrections and improvements to be implemented in order to achieve compliance.

The features available to the user that were considered for the website’s accessibility include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Compatibility with assistive technologies (e.g., NVDA, Jaws)
  • Keyboard navigation
  • Adequate colour contrasts
  • Text alternatives for graphic and multimedia content
  • Zooming and text resizing
  • Captions for multimedia content and text transcripts
  • Animation control and reduction of non-essential motion
  • Forms and input fields with clear labels for easier interaction

Web content accessibility for users utilizing assistive technologies, such as screen readers, alternative keyboards, or voice commands, is further supported by the presence of ARIA attributes. These are essential for describing the role, state, and properties of user interface elements, communicating dynamic interactions (e.g., expandable menus, modals, sliders) to screen readers, and supporting keyboard navigation within complex components.

To further improve accessibility and user experience, a widget (UserWay PRO) has been integrated into the website. Its use by website users is entirely free of charge and helps improve the site’s compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).

UserWay PRO provides multiple features to enhance website accessibility and user experience through a dedicated panel that can be displayed by clicking on the widget icon or via the CTRL+U keyboard shortcut, as listed below.

  • Screen Reader: reads aloud all page content without requiring the installation of an external screen reader.
  • Larger Text: allows users to increase the text size on the screen, offering four different levels of magnification, immediately making every part of the site more readable.
  • Saturation:sets the intensity of the website’s colours to high, low, or grayscale.
  • Contrast: inverts the website’s colours or allows switching between light and dark contrast modes.
  • Smart Contrast: ensures that all colours on the site are fully compliant with ADA standards, guaranteeing greater visibility of content.
  • Highlight Links: highlights links, buttons, and other interactive and clickable elements with bright, high-contrast colours, making them easier to identify and facilitating site usability, navigation, and overall accessibility.
  • Stop Animations: pauses content that moves or updates automatically and is considered an accessibility barrier; it stops distracting animations and flashing content that could trigger epileptic seizures in at-risk individuals.
  • Text Spacing: modifies text and line spacing to improve readability for dyslexic and visually impaired users, offering three levels of adjustment for a personalized and more accessible reading experience.
  • Line Spacing: increases line height to ensure more comfortable spacing for all text on the site.
  • Text Alignment: aligns the website text to the left, right, or centre to ensure a personalized and more accessible reading experience.
  • Dyslexia Font: the “UserWay Dyslexia Friendly” font improves readability and provides a simpler, smoother reading experience for visitors with dyslexia.
  • Large Cursor: increases the standard cursor size by 400% so that the pointer is always in sight. It enables faster and more accessible navigation through hyperlinks, tabs, and form elements.
  • Tooltips: displays alternative text and ARIA labels for on-screen elements with a simple mouse hover. Tooltips are prominently displayed, high-contrast, and easy to read for visually impaired users with accessibility needs.
  • Page Structure: quickly reveals page headings, landmarks, and links in a clear, structured, easily navigable, and accessible format. It helps both disabled and non-disabled users find the desired content more quickly.

In addition to the features that users can activate from the accessibility menu, the UserWay PRO widget can detect numerous non-compliances on the site and apply the necessary corrections in real-time, without modifying the source code but only what the browser displays on the screen. This allows the website to be more usable for all end users, including those who utilize assistive technologies.

Compliance Status

To define the website’s compliance status, the guidelines and evaluation checklist provided by AgID were used. The technical assessment carried out by an expert accessibility consultant determined the following status, as of the date of drafting or updating this statement.

This website is partially compliant with the requirements set out in Appendix A of the UNI CEI EN 301549 standard due to the instances of non-compliance listed below:

  • Some pages do not comply with the requirements of Chapter 9 “Web” of the UNI CEI EN 301549 standard.
  • The PDF files downloadable from the site do not comply with the requirements of Chapter 10 “Non-web documents”.

In particular:

  • Some informative images lack alternative text.
  • Some list elements are not correctly structured, compromising the proper use of screen readers.
  • Some functional or structural relationships between elements are conveyed solely by CSS or physical positioning and are not programmatically associated.
  • Some information is communicated exclusively through colour.
  • Some information lacks adequate colour contrast.
  • Some elements with scrollable content are not accessible via keyboard.
  • Some content cannot be used via keyboard.
  • Some elements lack controls for content management, risking interference with screen readers or causing user confusion.
  • In some sections, the order of information accessed via keyboard is inconsistent with the meaning of the content.
  • Some links do not clearly and properly communicate their purpose.
  • In some sections, certain content lacks visual indicators for keyboard focus, which can make it difficult to determine one’s location when navigating without a mouse.
  • Interaction with certain components causes an unexpected or unnotified change of context.
  • Some elements feature disallowed ARIA attributes.
  • In some cases, page elements do not clearly indicate their purpose or function.
  • Some messages are not automatically read by screen readers.

Furthermore, this accessibility statement considers non-compliances corrected by the UserWay PRO widget as resolved, provided that the modifications made by the widget meet the success criteria established by current regulations.

5. Accessibility Monitoring Process

Hausbrandt Trieste 1892 S.p.A. intends to evaluate performing periodic technical audits to monitor the website’s accessibility over time, potentially with the contribution of third parties specialized in digital accessibility, in order to make improvements, including those resulting from user suggestions.

Technical audits are conducted by an external consultant specializing in accessibility, who uses technological tools that are constantly updated in accordance with current legislation to re-examine the compliance status in various ways: through semi-automated code checks, manual user tests, and with the aid of assistive technologies.
